Norelco 8900 Review
In this Norelco 8900 review, we take an in-depth look at one of the most popular, technology-packed and acclaimed electric shavers.
1.UltraTrack Shaving Head
These features mention the internal and external tracks that make up the 3 cutting heads of Norelco 8900 shaver. These tracks are designed to capture both short and long strands of hair. Even flat laying ones in your neck area.
Philips says that the V-track precision blades in the Norelco 8900 shaver will shave up to thirty percent compared to previous models of Norelco’s.
They also said that these blades self-sharpen but keep in mind that you will need to replace this head minimum once a year and if take very good care of this Norelco 8900 shaver (this means cleaning after every use), this will end for years.
3.Wet and dry shaving
All SensoTouch 3D shavers allow you to shave wet or dry depending on your selection.
Since this is completely water-resistant, you can even take this Norelco 8900 shaver with you in the shower or even shave under-water.
4.Gyro Flex 3D
This term mention not only to the completely flexible head that flexes 360 degrees, but also the cutting tracks itself that turn inward and outward.
As It keeps a lot of the tracks in the face area as possible, cutting down the shaving time but still give you a close a shave as possible.
to help you keep mark of battery status, Philips uses a single bar LED. It isn’t the most perfect, but at least it gives you a chart when you need to recharge.
Norelco 8900 shaver also has a travel lock that prevents this from by mistake turning on inside your baggage and alarm the TSA.
6.Separate Beard Trimmer
Unlike the 2D that comes with a separate trimmer that you join in place of the shaving head, Norelco 8900 shaver is built-in and it solves the issue that many people have in terms of misplacing it because it is such a small part and there is no storage space for it.
People who travel a lot have disagreed about this and they liked that Philips addressed this by making the trimmer part of the shaver itself.
7.Easy to clean
You have two options to clean this – first and the easier option would be to use the Jet Clean system that automatically does this for you but you will have to wait for it to clean, oiling and dry the razors.
While this uses up cleaning liquid and this liquid will cost money, you have one more option which is to wash it under water.
You can open the shaving mark personally; brush off excess hair then clean.
This can make longer the time you need to buy cleaning oil (this costs around $5 per bottle) to two or even three months. Plus it is much quicker than using the Jet Clean system.
This manual cleaning option is great to use when traveling since the cleaning base is huge and heavy.
8.Two purchase options
If you purchase this on Amazon, you will have two options. The first option is the buy this without the charging base/cleaning station which will save you around $130++. If you’re really after the savings this is a great option because the shaver itself is simple to clean even without the automatic cleaning station.
But you’re missing out on the goodies you’ll get when you only buy the Norelco 8900 shaver…
Along with the cleaning/charging base, you’ll also get a traveling pouch and a month’s provider of cleaning liquid.
A complete charge will last around 60 minutes and since this uses a lithium-ion battery, that power will be consistent and there will be very slightest power fade.
It will take about an hour to completely charge the 1280X but just in case you’re in a hurry there is an optional 3-minute quick charge that charges this in 3 minutes – passable for a single shave.
although Norelco 8900 shaver comes with a charging plug, you can’t directly plug it on the shaver itself, you will require charging this using the charging stand that the manufacturer giving.

Some frequently asked questions
- What’s the difference between the Frustration-Free Packaging and the Standard Packaging?
Answer: It comes in what I’d call an open box. Certain pieces are cushioned in paperboard like drink containers from a fast food restaurant. Not a single box unit like you would see in the store. No cutting of plastic made it was easier to extricate the items.
- Can I replace the built-in battery with any type of rechargeable battery available on the market?
Answer: No, definitely not. You should on no account replace the built-in rechargeable battery with any type of rechargeable battery you can buy in the shops.
- The fitted battery is specially made for the charging system in this shaver. Do not try to replace the battery yourself.
- If you have problems with the battery in your shaver, take the shaver to a local Philips dealer or call the Philips Customer Care Center.
- can you charge without the stand?
Answer: The stand & charger is one unit. You can support the shaver in the charger without standing it up
This razor is a superior option for executives and professionals who like to travel because of the 60 minute run time and since this uses a newer lithium-ion battery, power will be continuous and there will be minimum fade in the charge period.
It is brighter than the Braun because of the overall design and the lithium battery.
The major downside for me is the need to carry the huge charging stand because you can’t charge this with just the plug. For short trips that only last some days, it shouldn’t be a trouble. But for long trips of over a week, it will be.
At least based on Norelco 8900 review, this is a great option that will provide you an attractive shave if you have standard beards but men who have bulky more large beards may have to look at a foil shaver like a Braun.
One more anxiety is the charging base that seems to break down towards the end of the warranty period, but only some complained about this so it seems to be a difference.
